Every charity has a story. Here's mine.
Founder, WaterWorks Cambodia
"I didn't just tell my children one person can change the world; for sixteen years, I have shown them."— Debra Daniels
Deb is a lawyer turned philanthropist, based in Brisbane, Queensland — a single mum who always believed that one person could change the world. After a trip to Cambodia in 2011, she fell in love with the country, its culture, and above all its beautiful people. But she also saw the poverty, and decided she was in a position to do something about it. So she did.
Over the next 16 years, Deb volunteered tirelessly — building houses, drilling water wells, and constructing toilets for Cambodian families in need. She didn't do it from a distance. She lived in Cambodia for several years, learning the ropes, living with locals, and learning from her mistakes along the way.
WaterWorks Cambodia grew out of that lived experience. One day it became clear: what these communities desperately need is clean, safe water — and basic sanitation. Because everybody needs clean water, and everybody needs a Loo 4 A Poo.
I started WaterWorks Cambodia because I saw with my own eyes what a well, a filter, or a simple toilet can do for a family. It's not just water. It's time back for a mother. It's a girl who stays in school. It's a child who stops getting sick.
